UX in Action: User Experience Research Report

Creating a user experience research report has numerous benefits for businesses and organizations. UX research studies user behavior, needs, and preferences to improve the design and functionality of products, services, and digital experiences. A UX research report is a detailed document summarizing the findings of UX research studies and providing insights and recommendations for changes that will improve the user experience.

One of the primary benefits of creating a UX research report is that it helps businesses and organizations make data-driven decisions. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the user experience, highlighting areas of strength and weakness. This information guides product development, design decisions, and marketing strategies.

Another benefit of creating a UX research report is that it helps organizations understand their users better. By conducting research and analyzing user behavior, organizations gain valuable insights into their users’ needs, preferences, and expectations.

I took numerous steps in the research report created for SensatioNail.com to identify the target audience and gather data. I began by doing a competitive analysis in which I analyzed SensatioNail and three competing gel nail polish brands to understand what sets SensatioNail apart and which areas the site lacks. Next, I created three personas to develop a realistic concept of the target audience and serve as a reminder of who the redesign should prioritize.

Card sort conducted with Optimal Workshop

For research, I conducted a card sort activity and a usability study which provided user feedback and data to suggest changes for SensatioNail.com. Five users participated in digital asynchronous card sorting. The results outlined users’ mental models and created a clearer understanding of how users understand information related to SensatioNail, ranging from gel nail polish to how-to videos.

Three users participated in in-person usability testing and were given five tasks to complete on the current live site for SensatioNail. The usability study provided insight into which aspects work well and what leave users less satisfied. The usability testing revealed that the primary challenge for users lies within the information architecture. I then used the results from the card sort activity to propose a new approach to the information architecture.

Creating a UX research report has numerous benefits for businesses and organizations. It helps them make data-driven decisions, understand their users better, find hidden pain points, and stay ahead of the competition.
